As an experienced Comic-Con fan I can tell you that
the fun doesn't stop when the show floor closes. There's still so much to do and see after hours. San Diego comes
alive at night with tons of great Comic-Con related events. From movie screenings, cosplay gatherings and other
special events, you'll never have time to see it all. That's why I'm here to help you make the most of your time. Here are
my picks of the best Comic-Con after dark activities.
The Balboa Theatre will feature a special performance of Mystery
Science Theater 3000 LIVE on Friday and Saturday night. The cast will be lampooning a different film each night, so
you die hard fans may want to attend both showings. Special guests are expected as well. You can purchase tickets
If you don't have Preview Night tickets, then you may want to
check out the return of Hop-Con. This popular 21 and over event promises an evening of food, beer and games. Attendees will
get the chance to sample 15 different beers. Your ticket price event includes free souvenier items from the event. You can
learn more about Hop-Con HERE.
Also on Preview Night, Gabriel Eltaeb will be hosting his Fourth
Annual Comic Kickoff Fundraiser. The event will be held at Basic (410 10th Avenue). Proceeds from the event will benefit Hero
Initiative. Meet some comic creators, maybe win a prize but most importantly, it's all for a good cause.
Running from Thursday through Sunday, Turning Tydes Theatre will
feature two different yet very unique musicals. First up, Into the Walker Woods, which is a mashup of Into the Woods and The
Walking Dead. The other show is Phantom of the Empire, combining Star Wars with Phantom of the Opera. Got your attention?
As the Emperor would say, good....good. Further information can be found HERE.
For those of you who really want to blow off some steam, Kristian
Nairn (better known as Hodor from Game of Thrones) will be hosting Rave of Thrones at the Omnia Nightclub at 9pm on Thursday
night. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
Game of Thrones: The Musical will have performances
twice nightly from Thursday through Saturday. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
Still want to blow off some steam? Head over to Petco Park
on Friday night beginning at 7pm as MTV Fandom Fest returns for another year of giveaways, activites and live music. I would
suggest getting there early as the line of folks waiting to get in will only continue to grow as the sun goes down.
You're already going to Comic Con. What about Pirate-Con? The
Maritime Museum of San Diego is hosting a one night pirate themed event featuring a costume contest, games, live music and
'general pirate style behavior'. You can learn more about the event HERE.
On Thursday night, The Music Box will host a live recording
of Comedy Bang! Bang! Live! podcast. General admission tickets are still available. Not to be outdone, on Friday night The
Comedy Palace will feature a live recording of The Mean Boys podcast. Free admission but there is a two item minimum.
For something completely different, there will be a screening
on Friday night of Major Grom, the first ever film based on a Russian comic book. This is strictly for Comic Con badge holders
as the screening will be held in Room 23ABC at 9pm. All in attendance will receive an exclusive art book. The creators of
the film will be on hand to answer your questions afterwards. You can watch the trailer HERE.
On Friday night, you can party like the 80's with Flash Gordon
himself, Sam Jones! He'll be hosting a party at The Waterfront Bar & Grill starting at 9pm. For a Flash Gordon inspired
cocktail served by Sam Jones himself, you won't want to miss this! More information can be found on their Facebook page (LINK).
On Saturday night, Copley Symphony Hall will feature The San
Diego Symphony performing Raiders, Rebels and Supermen: The Music of John Williams. This summer concert will features selections
from classic Williams scores such as Star Wars, Superman and Raiders of the Lost Ark. You can learn more about the event HERE.
Last but not least, what's a Comic Con without Kevin Smith? The fan favorite is hosting his popular
Fatman on Batman podcast with co-host Marc Bernardin on Saturday night at the American Comedy Co. Tickets are still available
but will sell out quickly (Link).
And there you have it. Nighttime is the right time to continue
your Con experience. Besides, you can sleep when you're in line for that first panel in the morning.
