Cool Events Happening Outside of Comic-Con

Once again it's time for Comic Con! Just because the Con ends nightly at 7pm doesn't mean the fun ends. There are plenty of events going on outside the convention, some of them you don't even need a ticket to. Let's take a look at a few highlights:


We start with the return of The Walking Dead Escape where you can choose be to a zombie, a survivor or simply an observer to the chaos. Kudos to you if you can survive, not to mention bragging rights. Friends have told me, it is NOT as easy as it appears. (LINK)

On Friday night, the 25th, Broken Heart Tattoo will be hosting “Superhero Sideshow – A Comic Con Inspired Art Show” featuring the talents of 45 local tattoo artists taking their spin on all things pop culture related. This event is FREE! (LINK)

Fan favorite, Elijah Wood will be spinning the turntables with his partner Zach Cowe under the duet name Wooden Wisdom. Catch them at Bang Bang on Thursday night. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased HERE.


If you are a fan of great video game music then you won't want to miss Video Games LIVE. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra will be performing music from some of your favorite games. Industry legend Tommy Tallarico leads the orchestra presenting music from The Legend of Zelda, Halo, Sonic the Hedgehog, Bioshock and more! Also on Thursday night the Aquabats 20th Anniversary Tour will be at the House of Blues, right across the street from the convention. Please note that fans under the age of 18 must to be accompanied by an adult of 25 years or more. (LINK)

Saturday night is the 8th annual San Diego Zombie Walk. The Zombie Walk is free, as long as you dress the part! Immediately following the Zombie Walk, is the prom like event, A Night On Zombie Island. Tickets are required for the dance with full details available on their site. (LINK)


TheOneRing.net is celebrating the final year of The Hobbit films with a luau at the Kona Kai Restaurant. This promises to be an interactive evening for all of you who want to celebrate the conclusion of the Hobbit film trilogy. (LINK)

Saturday afternoon brings the Heroes Brew Craft Beer Festival. Featuring a costume contest, food, live music and over 40 participating breweries, this is a 21 and over event only. Tickets are required and they strongly suggest you purchase them in advance to avoid the possibility of a sellout. (LINK)


Friday night is the fifth annual Marked Men Pirate Party aboard a real pirate ship! The event will feature a live pirate band, sword fighting, a stunt show, a costume contest and plenty of food and drinks. Space is limited so get your tickets now. (LINK)

And finally, Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman return to Comic Con for another fantastic edition of Hollywood Babble-On. This particular show is a special comic-con related event. There will also be a special dinner before the show. Be sure to get your tickets early as they are certain to sell out fast. (HERE)
