Comic-Con Hosts A Grand Celebration of Wonder Woman

Attention fans of Wonder Woman: this is your year as your devotion is about to be rewarded. This year marks a milestone anniversary, 75 years of fighting for justice, equality and peace. While many like myself grew up watching Linda Carter defeat the bad guys every week on the now classic Wonder Woman TV series, many others have been devoted Wonder Woman fans since her earliest appearance in 1941.

This year will see the release of so many new products featuring Wonder Woman. Everything from new lines of apparel, toys, collectibles, comics and various other consumer products. Of course the biggest event occurs next May with the release of the first ever live action theatrical feature film, simply titled Wonder Woman.

During the Hall H presentation, director Patty Jenkins spoke of her love and passion for the character. She had first pitched a story for a feature over ten years ago but was rejected. She also praised Gal Gadot and then introduced us to the world premiere of the latest trailer. The tone was serious but still with an ounce of fun. I cannot wait to see this movie on the big screen next spring.

At a nearby offsite event was an invisible jet mock up for fans to sit in and snap pictures. Many fans went so far as to don a classic Wonder Woman cape to pose for photos. Requiring the efforts of almost 500 man hours to assemble the jet, I must say the end result is pretty incredible. Also sharing the same space were three large murals of Wonder Woman that were painted by female artists.

Meanwhile, over in the DC Comics booth was a display that featured Linda Carter's original Wonder Woman costume. Several other outfits from the upcoming Wonder Woman feature film, including those worn by Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Connie Nielsen were on display as well.

The other highlight was the panel on Saturday afternoon devoted to the history of Wonder Woman. As an added bonus, Gal Gadot made a surprise appearance! This panel was devoted to her long history and cultural significance.

Naturally, one could look in any direction during Comic Con and spot a plethora of Wonder Woman cosplayers. Like I said, this is her year and it's a wonderful opportunity for the fans to show off their devotion to this beloved character. Happy 75th Wonder Woman!
