Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo Returns to LA!

Written By: Abel Pinedo

This weekend is the 2nd annual Comikaze Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. After last year’s successful inaugural show, guests of honor Stan Lee and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark joined forces with the organizers and rebranded the show as “Stan Lee’s Comikaze”. This two day expo celebrates all things pop culture with a strong focus on comics. Let’s take a gander at some of the highlights of this new kid on the convention circuit.

Saturday morning kicks off with a bang as Stan Lee himself hosts a panel in conjunction with POW! Entertainment and Moonshark as they discuss Stan Lee’s first ever exclusive mobile game. If you’re a Doctor Who fan then you’ll want to attend the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary and Beyond panel. Prepare for a trip back to the early days of the Doctor as well as a discussion of what may come. Calling all Nickelodeon fans, make sure you get there early for the reunion of the cast of Salute Your Shorts. This is sure to be one of the more popular panels this weekend.

The fun continues in the afternoon as Felicia Day and the rest of the cast of The Guild appear to discuss all things Geek & Sundry. Stan Lee returns to the main stage, this time bringing another comic legend with him, Todd McFarlane. A lively discussion will take place as these two titans talk about their early days right up to the present. Kevin Smith will be on hand to interview the caped crusaders Adam West and Burt Ward as well as Julie Newmar for a look back at the classic 60’s Batman T.V. series. Back by popular demand is the cast of the indie film Sushi Girl. Join Tony Todd, Mark Hamill, Noah Hathaway and the rest of the cast for an informative Q&A. Stick around later in the evening for a screening of the film as well!

On Sunday attend an early screening of the classic animated film The Last Unicorn Stan Lee returns with another panel, this one discussing his World of Heroes YouTube Channel. Join Stan the Man, Adrianne Curry and other special guests. Attack of the Show’s Chris Gore will be hosting a special presentation of Comic Book Live. (If you’re unfamiliar with Comic Book Live, it’s a live improv reading of a comic book or graphic novel.) The MacManus brothers will take the stage Sunday afternoon as the Boondock Saints reunite to discuss their legacy and the future of the franchise. Whether you’re a Dick Grayson fan, a Tim Drake fan or if Stephanie Brown is your girl, then join in the discussion of which iteration of Batman’s sidekick Robin is the best of them all!

Finally, the con comes to a close with a final Q&A with Stan Lee and Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson. Further information on the panels can be found here: http://comikazeexpo.com/panels-and-programing/
