Hello true believers, as some of you may know, I’m a big fan of retro. When something takes me back to the simpler times of my youth, I get filled with the warm fuzzies. With that in mind, let’s take a step into the way back machine. If you happen to be a fan of Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci fi masterpiece Alien, then what I’m about to tell you will make you very happy. Super7, with full cooperation from 20th Century Fox, will be making action figures based on the film using the original prototypes from the never made toy line!

See, back in the day there was a plan for such toys to be made but upon the release of the first toy from the line, an 18” action figure of the Alien, parental groups were horrified. Such a gruesome monstrous toy had no place in their homes, they cried. Sales were practically nonexistent and future plans for toys were scuttled. Fast forward 34 years later, these “lost” toys have finally become a reality. Say hello to Super7’s Alien ReAction figure line.

The initial line will be made up of five figures:  Ripley, Ash, Dallas, Kane and of course the Alien, lovingly referred to as “Big Chap”.  Each figure has five points of articulation and comes with unique accessories.  Each is also packaged on their own unique retro style blister card, appearing just as they would have back in 1979.  In today’s age of multi jointed action figures, the simplicity of this line as well as the aesthetics is simply incredible.   They made their first public appearance at WonderCon earlier this year much to the delight of Con goers.

Now that the drooling has commenced, I’m sure you are asking where you can get these wonderful toys.  Well, they will be available this fall directly from their website, http://www.super7store.com/ but for those of you going to San Diego Comic Con, you’re in for a treat.  Super7 will be offering four different Alien exclusives to attendees.

First, while the figures aren’t expected to ship until the fall, if you pre-order the set of five figures you’ll receive an Early Bird Package on the spot which contains a specially made display stage, photos, a sheet of Alien stickers and a Space Club Membership Card. These are done up in a 1970’s style package. The price is $100.00 and that includes free shipping.

The second exclusive is something I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a toy line offer before.  Super7 has dubbed this the “Discovered Sales Samples” two pack of Big Chap and Kane.  This two pack of figures is painted a light blue to emulate the prototype stage of action figures.  Pretend if you will that this two pack was to be distributed to toy wholesalers of the late 70’s.  Both come in “cancelled” packaging, including a letter stating this fact.  This will be the first opportunity for fans to own the figures before the full set of five is available after October.  The two pack will be available for $40.00.

The third exclusive is a unique action figure base that will fit the all Alien figures as well as most other 3 ¾” figures. Simply sign up for Super7’s mailing list to get your free base. Don’t let Ripley fall down on the job!

TOYS/Alien_Catalog.jpg

The final exclusive is an Alien ReAction figure catalog. Back in the day, when you purchased a vehicle or playset of a popular toy line such as Star Wars, you’d also get a small toy catalog that featured current and upcoming toys available. Super7 has faithfully recreated the idea to showcase their Alien ReAction figure line. The best part is that this is free! Just go up to the booth and ask for one.

TOYS/Alien_Glasses.jpg

I don’t have to tell you that these will be an awesome addition to any sci fi toy collection. But wait! There’s more. Along with the figures, we will also soon see some vintage style fast food glassware. If you remember the good old days of buying glassware from places like Burger King, then you know the style these glasses will be made after. Each glass represents a memorable moment from the film. The set of four 16 ounce glasses will be available for $49.99.

I can’t wait to see these in person. I'm even more excited to add them to my collecion!  Thank you Super7 for this awesome trip back to a time that could have been…and is now actually a reality!
