Best Gadget:

Amiibo is the Nintendo answer to Skylanders. These collectible figures use Near Field technology to bring additional content to various games. The first game to utilize these collectible figurines is the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo Wii U. Although we have known about this feature since the launch of the Wii U we have wondered how and when it would be implemented by Nintendo. Well wonder no more. The Amiibo line will launch this year with an impressive selection of 14 different characters. The build quality on these figures is quite impressive and we are certain that some people will buy them just as collectibles, even if they have no intention of using them with a game. However, it's their gaming potential that intrigues us the most. It's obvious that Nintendo will use these figures for other games. The possibilities are endless. Games like Animal Crossing and Pokemon could also utilize the Amiibo figures. We're certain that a Pokemon game using Amiibo figures would be a massive success for the company.

Best Retro Gaming Product:

Innex is known for making a wide variety quality retro gaming products. They currently have a great neo-retro console called the Super Retro Trio. This system plays games from the NES, SNES and the Genesis. It also plays Game Boy Advance games with an optional adapter. Joining the Super Retro Trio is their portable game system, the Super Bit Portable, which plays SNES games. Now the company has created something for the nostalgic PC gamer and the results are a very impressive product. The Innex Lighted Retro Controllers are a series of classic controller replicas for all your favorite retro game systems. Models include a NES controller, SNES controller, N64 controller and our personal favorite, the iconic Atari 2600 joystick. The build quality is outstanding on these products. The lighting effect is truly impressive. Each controller features a number of built in LED lights that brilliantly shine and bring some color and flair to your PC retro gaming. The entire line is USB compatible and you simply plug and play. Check out the video posted above to see the entire line in all of it's colorful glory.

Best Gaming Hardware:

When we first encountered the Oculus Rift it was at a demo held during game night at a place called Giant Robot 2 in West LA. It was just one guy with a card table and an early Oculus Rift prototype. A year later this amazing device has taken the world by storm. It's parent company was recently acquired by Facebook for the hefty sum of 2 billion dollars. Once you try this product you quickly start to believe the hype. Oculus Rift is the future. And while other competitors may have their own, inferior copy cat products, they don't hold a candle to Oculus Rift. The potential for this product is endless but we are most excited about it's gaming applications. We have been a believer in this product since day one. Now the dream of true virtual reality gaming, long delayed, has finally become a reality.

Best of Show: Runner Up:

Over the past year the scrappy little company from Kyoto, Japan has taken a lot of slack from their detractors and from the press. The launch of the Wii U console was mired by brand confusion which initially hurt sales of the product. Many consumers actually thought the Wii U was just an add on for the original Wii console. Sluggish sales led their usual naysayers to once again predict doom for this resilient little company, and once again those people were thoroughly proven wrong. Nintendo had an amazing show at E3 2014. Their new approach to the event was revolutionary, taking their message from the show floor directly to their fans with online briefings and instore events. The company also had some of the best games at the show. No other game drew as many fans as the new Super Smash Bros. The Nintendo booth was absolutely crushed with people all day, every day. Other notable games included a fun new shooter called Splatoon, a beautiful platforming game called Yoshi's Wooly World and new entries in the Wii Sports and Mario Party series. The company also has a massive cash cow on their hand with their new Amiibo figure line. It's clear that Nintendo is on their way to making yet another comeback, and it's obvious that once again their detractors have egg on their face.

Best of Show: Best of E3 2014

Without a doubt Microsoft won this E3 hands down. No other company had such a large variety of outstanding exclusive titles, early DLC content and great multi-platform titles. Their E3 press conference was a non stop barrage of new games. Everything from exciting new IPs like Sunset Overdrive to the return of old favorites like the Halo: Master Chief Collection. They even resurrected Phantom Dust, a classic and much loved game from the original Xbox era. They clearly learned from their mistakes last year when the company put it's focus on multimedia. This year Microsoft was all about the games and all about the gamers. Meanwhile their primary competitor actually started pushing movies and TV, the same thing Microsoft was criticized for doing for last year. Simply put the Xbox One is now the best value in gaming, with the best games, the strongest exclusives, a superior controller and the best and most reliable hardware. They also have now matched their competitor on price. And no other console has games that look as good as titles like Ryse or Dead Rising 3. For the second year running Microsoft had the top console games but now they also have the brightest future.

BONUS: Best Freebie

For the fifth year in a row we stormed the floors of the E3 Expo giving away our beautiful custom made arcade tokens. This year in honor of our fifth year anniversary we partnered with the Video Game History Museum to distribute our collectible arcade tokens to fans at the show. The turnout was amazing! We were able to distribute over 1000 tokens in just three days! 100 of our coins will also be part of a special promotion benefiting Extra-Life.org and the Children's Miracle Network. We couldn't be more honored to be a small part of the work done by these amazing groups. This truly was the best E3 Expo in many years.

The Arcade Token give-away gets bigger and better with each passing year! These tokens are a celebration of video gaming and they are made exclusively for the E3 Expo. We had a tremendously fun time handing out these coins to our fellow attendees. People always tell us this is a great way to promote our site, however we do it just because we like making people happy. We graciously thank you all for making this give away such a tremendous success!
