As E3 2015 draws to a close we take the time to review the best
products of the show. Video game fans agree that E3 2015 is one of the best shows in E3 history. Each day there was a new
megaton surprise . The event floor was packed with amazing new games, exciting new hardware and tons of cool gadgets. With
so many strong contenders this year it was extremely difficult for us to choose just one winner from each category. Here
is our review of E3 2015. These games and products are the best of the best, and at the end of this article you will
find out who really won E3 2015.
Best Game By Platform: Consoles
Editor's Note: A
game must be exclusive to a single platform in order to be considered the best game for a specific platform. A game must also
have a playable demo, extensive gameplay footage, or a demo that is played by a presenter during an on stage event. Teaser
trailers do not qualify.
After a rough start with the launch of the Xbox One, a
revitalized Xbox division has aggressively courted the hardcore gaming community. Whether it's through acquiring blockbuster
exclusives or by creating the strongest online gaming network, Microsoft has proven their dedication to the core gaming
community. The company takes that dedication one step further with the release of the Xbox One Elite Controller. Having sampled
this controller first hand we can easily say that it is clearly the best controller ever made. The new device features replaceable
analog sticks, giving you a choice between concave and convex tops. It also has two different D-Pads, one of which is perfectly
suited for fighting games, and the other is the classic "plus style" that we all know and love. On the bottom side
of the controller players can use 4 optional paddles, which attach to the underside of the device. These paddles can be mapped
to replace any controller button or trigger. But the real game changer is the depth slider for the triggers. This allows you
to control the depth of your triggers, giving you a distinct advantage in certain games. Use the full depth setting for racing
games like Forza. Set the depth setting to shallow and you'll be able to fire much more quickly in your favorite shooting
game, giving you a definite advantage over other players.
Best Retro Gaming Product:
8Bitdo SNES30 Bluetooth Super Nintendo
8Bitdo is a small company with a very unusual name. They came
out of nowhere and stole the best retro gaming product of the show. Their SNES30 Bluetoorh controller has been available
for a few months. However now the company has created an adapter for the classic Super Nintendo and Super Famicom
console, which allows this awesome controller to be used with your classic Nintendo hardware. After a lengthy testing
session with the controller we can easily say that it's fast, responsive and appears to have very little input lag.
It also boasts an impressive 20 hours of battery life. We should also mention that the company has controllers and adapter
for the classic Nintendo Entertainment System. So whether you're a fan of 8-Bit or 16-Bit Nintendo, this company has you covered
with the best wireless controllers for either system.
Best Gaming Hardware:
When Hololens was first announced earlier this year we could
tell that it had tremendous potential as a gaming device. Well this year our dreams were realized as we watched the Minecraft
Hololens demonstration at E3. Microsoft also held a private demo using Halo 5. The augmented reality hardware is
a total game changer, bringing new ideas and new innovation to popular games. This device will become even more amazing
when we finally see games created exclusively for Hololens. It expands gaming beyond the confines of your TV set or computer
monitor, bringing the gaming experience into your living space. The new augmented reality visor certainly has a bright future.
We cant wait to see more of it in the coming months.
Best of Show: Runner Up:
Bethesda Game Studios held their first E3 press conference
this year, and as such they had a lot to prove coming into the show. Tickets to their press event in Hollywood sold out
very quickly, and fans waited in line for hours to get the best seats. Well the legendary game studio came to the plate swinging
and delivered some of the biggest hits of E3 2015. The highly anticipated Fallout 4 was easily one of the most talked about
games of the show. The return of the classic Doom franchise was also a big surprise. And their new mobile game, Fallout Shelter
has already become an unexpected hit. The games of Bethesda were so important they were even featured in the press events
held by other companies such as Microsoft. After the show their deluxe "Fallout 4: Pip Boy Edition" sold out in
a matter of minutes. It's clear that Bethesda had a very good showing. Their catalog of games is very strong, and are certain
to be big sellers this holiday season and beyond.
Best of Show: Best of E3 2015
Saying that Microsoft absolutely crushed it at E3 2015 is a major
understatement. Microsoft easily won this year by playing both sides of the fence. They catered to both PC and Xbox gamers.
This is a tactic that simply cannot be matched by their competitors who work only on dedicated consoles and handheld
game systems. On the console side the company delivered the best lineup of exclusive games in Xbox history. Never before have
we heard the words "Xbox One exclusive" so many times during a press event. The company had a large and diverse
library of games covering every possible genre, from blockbuster hits to the coolest indie games. The vast majority of
their titles will be available this calendar year. That's a major plus when it comes to winning E3. This show isn't just about
the promise of distant future games, it's also about delivering games that will drive sales throughout the rest of the current
year and beyond.
Xbox One will soon be able to play Xbox 360 games. Although this feature should have been
available at launch, it's still a serious win for the company. The announcement of this service will definitely get those
millions of gamers still playing their Xbox 360 to move up to the Xbox One. Microsoft also won a serious public relations
coup with this announcement. While their competitors plan to charge gamers to play their favorite legacy games using a monthly
fee based subscription service, Microsoft will let gamers play the games they already own for free.
Microsoft also had some of the best gaming accessories including Hololens and a unique partnership with Oculus Rift.
Having both Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality hardware truly gives them a major advantage over other companies. Oculus
Rift will come bundled with the Xbox One controller. This is a very high profile move that will bring a tremendous amount
of prestige to the Xbox brand. Meanwhile Hololens and Minecraft have proven to be an incredible combination.
We expect big things from this company this year. Don't be suprised if the Xbox One is the
leading console this Holiday Season, the most important sales period of the year. One thing is for certain, after a rough
start this console is finally showing it's real potential. The Xbox One is the comeback kid and it's easily the console to
own this year. And if you're a PC gamer the company will deliver some of the best games, incredible Augmented Reality
with Hololens, and the best controller on the market. No matter which side you prefer, you're a winner.
Editor's Note: Why We Didn't Pick Sony
We feel it's important to explain why we did not pick Sony
as the winner of E3, as a service to their fans. We want full transparency when it comes to our decision making
process. Sony definitely had an amazing show, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. However when one looks more closely
there seems to have been a lot of smoke and mirrors at their E3 presentation. While games like Final Fantasy VII and Shenmue
3 certainly were megaton announcements, they are also both titles that will be available on other platforms. In fact, the
big news when it comes to Final Fantasy VII is not that it was announced, but rather that it's not a PlayStation exclusive.
That's the real megaton. The same goes for Shenmue 3, which is only getting a physical release on PC.
we were overjoyed to finally see The Last Guardian, that's a game we originally saw 7 years ago. We worry that if they
were confident with this game when it was first announced it would have been released years ago. Sony also spent a lot of
time talking about TV services, something that was utterly rejected by gamers and their own fans when Microsoft did the same
thing at E3 2013. While new titles like Horizon: Zero Dawn look amazing, they were few and far between. And while a game like
Uncharted 4 is worth buying a PS4 just to play, it is not game of the show material and it's not coming out this year.
You can't win E3 when your best games are multplatform titles, or titles that will not release for several years.
BONUS: Best Freebie
This year we partnered with the Video Game History Museum to
distribute our collectible arcade tokens to fans at the show. The turnout was amazing! We were able to distribute over 1000
tokens in just three days! The Arcade Token give-away
gets bigger and better with each passing year! These tokens are a celebration of video game culture and they are
made exclusively for the E3 Expo. We had a tremendously fun time handing out these coins to our fellow attendees. People always tell us this is a great way to promote our site, however we
do it just because we like making people happy. We graciously thank you all for making this give away such a tremendous success!
